MIRO BUILDERS receives three HOBI Awards for Westport Homes

Miro Builders Inc. of Westport, CT has been honored with three prestigious HOBI Awards from the Home Builders Association of Connecticut, as well as receiving a Westport Historic District Commission Preservation Award. The 2014 awards are for “Best Residential Remodel $500,000-$750,000”, “Best Spec Home $1-$2 million”, and “Best Not So Big Pool House.”  The prestigious HOBI’s (Home Building Industry Awards) are in recognition of building excellence.  Miro Builders is a repeat honoree having received HOBI awards six times before and Preservation Awards five times before.

The “Best Residential Remodel $500,000-$750,000” award was given for an addition to the historic Burr Sherwood house.  Executing the design of architect Lisa Mockler Taylor AIA, Miro Builders constructed an architecturally sympathetic addition, creating a space that meets the needs of a modern day family. Miro Builders took great care and expense in replicating the cornice detail, crown mouldings and exterior casings of the original house. The north exterior elevation of the addition, not visible from the street, is the location of a modern IPE deck and outdoor shower.  The outdoor shower, also constructed of IPE, features custom-milled paneling, stainless steel hardware and a modern chrome shower fixture. While the interior common spaces largely match the original details of the home, each full bath is a unique highly-detailed modern design.  Varied tile patterns and textures, modern plumbing and light fixtures, lacquered finishes and large format mirrors create a striking and visually interesting contrast to the historic fabric of the original structure

Miro Builders was also honored with the “Best Spec Home $1-$2 million” award for 26 Long Lots Lane, Westport.   The home has a clean “traditional” contemporary exterior featuring low-maintenance materials. The interior strove to create a transitional clean look; simple yet well-thought and sophisticated.  Passing from the shaker style paneled entry into the family room one immediately notes the custom “penny-spaced” paneled fireplace wall and the tastefully designed white custom kitchen balanced at the opposite end of the open plan.  The clean look continues throughout the home with shaker style paneled doors, wide white oak flooring, custom-paneled mudroom with cubbies, contemporary style plumbing fixtures and door hardware.  With a deliberately modern intent, the master bathroom offers a beautiful free-standing tub, custom double vanity, large format mirror, marble floor and large tiled shower.  This home combines a traditional architectural perspective with a slight contemporary transitional mood and includes 5 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms and 1 powder room.

Lastly, Miro Builders received the “Best Not-So-Big Pool House” award for a pool house designed and constructed in keeping with the Dutch Colonial style of the main house, with its Post & Beam construction, architecturally historic bell-shaped gambrel roof and rustic stone fireplace.  The new Pool House pays homage to each of these features with its roofline, pergola and fire pit.  The red cedar shingle roof echoes the distinct bell-shaped gambrel profile of the main house, while atop the adjoining bluestone patio sits a clear red cedar pergola constructed of 3” thick timbers.  The far end of the pool hosts a dry-laid Moss Ledge stone fire pit and sitting area, all perfectly framed in the Pool House view from across the water.  The interior space of the Pool House offers an interesting architectural contrast to the exterior.  Contemporary styled penny-spacer paneling is exactly matched in detail by the built-in powder room vanity.  The modern vanity top and chrome plumbing fixtures complete the effect.
